College football moneyEver wonder how much the big college football teams make in a year?

Forbes.com compiled a list of the most valuable college football teams ( the first number is team value, the second number is 2010 profits made by the football team):

  1. University of Texas Longhorns – $129 million – $71 million
  2. University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish – $112 million – $47 million
  3. Penn State Nittany Lions – $100 million – $ 53 million
  4. LSU Tigers – $96 million – $47 million
  5. University of Michigan Wolverines – $ 94 million – $47 million
  6. University of Alabama Crimson Tide – $93 million – $45 million
  7. University of Georgia Bulldogs – $90 million – $53 million
  8. University of Arkansas Razorbacks – $89 million – $37 million
  9. Auburn University – $88 million – $37 million

10. University of Oklahoma Sooners – $87 million – $36 million

11. University of Florida Gators – $86 million – $47 million

12. University of Tennessee Volunteers- $82 million – $38 million

13. Ohio State University Buckeyes – $78 million – $26 million

14. University of Nebraska Cornhuskers – $77 million – $35 million

15. University of Wisconsin Badgers – $67 million – $20 million

20. University of Iowa Hawkeyes – $48 million – $24 million

As you can see, college football is big business these days.  While these profits aren’t typical – there are several college football teams that operate at a loss – the possibility of a team to make this much money is sad compared to the fact that over 100 college presidents vetoed the plan to increase college football players scholarship by $2000.
