4 TCU College Football Players Caught in Police Sting

The 2012 college football season has gotten off to a bad start for the TCU Horned Frogs.

Junior linebacker Tanner Brock, junior defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey, junior safety Devin Johnson, and sophomore offensive tackle Ty Horn are among 18 TCU students that have been indicted for distribution of marijuana reported TCU Police Chief Steve McGee stated Wednesday.  Although the four football players were charged with marijuana distribution, others (that worked in different groups) arrested in the sting have been charged with distribution of cocaine, prescription drugs, ectasy, and acid.   McGee also stated there is little question that the arrested individuals were drug dealers and there is strong evidence that the accused engaged in hand to hand exchanges between drugs and money with undercover officers.  TCU coach Gary Patterson is pretty mad, stating “Under my watch, drugs and drug use by TCU’s student athletes will not be tolerated by me or any member of my coaching staff. Period.”

Devin Johnson started eight games in 2011 with 47 tackles and 2 sacks.  D.J. Yendrey  was honorable mention in MWC with 39 tackles, and three sacks.  Although Tanner Brock played only one game in 2011 he was honorable mention All American by SI.com lead TCU Horned Frogs in tackles and fumble recoveries in 2010.

With 2012 being the first year in the Big 12, the TCU Horned Frogs can ill afford to lose players with the experience and talent of the four football players.  But unless there was some monumental snafu by the TCU police, don’t expect to see these guys on the Horned Frogs sidelines again.
